Modern Wood Robin Sculpture - Baltic Birch
We have always loved the simplicity of mid-century modern bird sculptures, and using our signature layered Baltic birch, we decided a robin needed to be in our collection. These wooden robins are a unique piece, and a great addition to any home - perhaps their symbolic nature as “the beacon to Spring” will help you get through those long winter nights. Taking inspiration from the Eames House Bird, we set out to create our own avian sculpture. The dynamic sculpture has an “edge” face, where we’ve layered the Baltic birch and turned it on its side. It seems to almost lengthen the bird, and when viewing it straight on from the front or back, ripples in the layers appear and give a forward momentum and wings to the bird. Garden - Path idea! For the molds, used the remains of linoleum, cut them into strips 5 cm wide, and fastened them with a furniture stapler. The wire for the pins was cut into 20-22 cm lengths. A mixture of 1 part cement, 2.5-3 parts sand, water. Sand was poured between the finished tiles. It is much easier to fight weeds; they germinate locally.
