The PFOS Ornament Exchange 2024

Every year Pocket Full of Stitches in Texas has an ornament exchange among the staff.

It's always great to see what this legendary shop* comes up with!

*I'm pretty sure they originated the monthly clubs so many shops offer now.

New Website for Pocket Full of Stitches

Pocket Full of Stitches in Texas has revamped their website!

Not everything is loaded yet, but this is a fabulous browse, particularly if you are a fan of monthly clubs, which PFOS pioneered.  Hopefully all the available clubs will be loaded on the Monthly Clubs page by the time this publishes, but be patient.  Websites are a LOT of work!

March's Smart Cookie Award Winner

Lynda wins the Smart Cookie Award for March with her belt canvas which she had turned into three small dresser trays with the help of finishers at Pocket Full of Stitches.  Cute!

Mindy's Self Finishing Items to Browse

If you are thinking about trying self-finishing items, you'll want to look at the Pocket Full of Stitches trunk show of Mindy items on their blog today.
http://pocketfullofstitches.blogspot.com/2020/09/mindy-trunk-show-wallets-boxes.html

They are featuring various styles of wallets, boxes and purses plus luggage tabs and credit card cases.  While the shop has the trunk show, they can help you with canvases that will fit these.  A friend had seen the wallets in person and says they are fabulous.  Mindy also has dragonfly lacquered boxes with a space in the lid for a canvas.  You can see those on her website.  You can also buy directly from Mindy's shop which she runs as well as her design business.
http://www.mindysneedlepoint.com/shop/Mindys-Needlepoint-Designs.htm

More styles are pictured on Mindy's Facebook account.  Have fun looking!

The Ort Box With A Zipper Bottom UPDATED

Pocket Full of Stitches just posted a unique piece of finishing—an ort box that has a zipper in the bottom.  Zip it up and you can use the open top box to hold oats, scissors, etc. Unzip the zipper and you can fold the box flat for storage or travel. Neat!

UPDATE:  Knotted Needle in Michigan has three of the ort box canvases in stock.  I'm told these are designs from And More, too.

Ornament Exchanges are Fun

I love the idea of ornament exchanges during the holidays so I enjoyed seeing the ornaments the staff of Enriched Stitch exchanged.    Some of the ornaments are credited to their designers and some aren't but if you fall in love, the shop can help you identify the design you adore.
http://astheneedleturns.com/ornament-exchange/

Pocket Full of Stitches did an exchange, too.  Look at all those smiling faces!
http://pocketfullofstitches.blogspot.com/2018/12/pfos-annual-ornament-exchange.html

I think both shops had a blast.

Breaking News: Patt and Lee UPDATED

Patt Lange just announced the death of her husband and business partner Lee.  Together they were Patt and Lee Designs and also Pajamas and Chocolate (the hand painted line).  Lee made wonderful wooden items to display their canvases while Patt designed.  We send condolences and hugs to Patt and her family as they work to cope with this loss.

UPDATE:  Chris Lewis is now distributing Pat and Lee canvases.  Shoppers can ask Pocket Full of Stitches (owned by Chris's wife) for help finding canvases.

Banners and Boxes

I don't usually mention trunk shows any more but this one of Hillary Jean designs at Pocket Full of Stitches has several things that I've not seen before. So it's worth mentioning.  I think the customizable banners (you can pick your background and the letter you want on top of the background) are interesting and I love the little dog box and the stocking hanger.  The hanger for stockings is a terrific way to display Christmas stockings if a mantelpiece isn't one of your house's features and the dog box is wonderfully practical. Both are special orders.  Very clever, Hillary Jean!

Heidi for Halloween UPDATED With Other Holidays

Pocket Full of Stitches has a bunch of Halloween canvases by Heidi on their blog this morning since they are having a trunk show.  Heidi's great designs are hard to find online so I thought I'd add the link for those not familiar with her fun pieces.  If you want to stitch a Halloween piece in September-October, this is a good time to pick up one of these cuties.

UPDATE:  Here are Heidi's Christmas mini socks. I've never seen these before.  Thanks, PFOS!

Little Shoppe's Dimensional Needlepoint

Pocket Full of Stitches is having a Little Shoppe Canvas Company trunk show, and today's blog post from the shop shows several of their new canvases (bells, the crackers with candy, the twirling pumpkins) finished.  It's often not easy to understand how dimensional canvases are supposed to go together so I thought you'd like to see their latest design models.  It's quite fun!

Baroque Silk in Overdyes

Pocket Full of Stitches shows off the lovely colors of the new overdyed Baroque Silk which came out at the Dallas show.
http://pocketfullofstitches.blogspot.com/2015/10/thread.html

If you aren't familiar with this lovely silk, it comes from Pure Palette at Dream House Ventures.  Its plyable for 18 count or you can use all three plies in one strand for 13-14 count canvases.  The colors are beautiful and I like the feel of this pretty silk.  If you ply it, sometimes you'll find color variation even in the solid colors but this can be used to great effect for a "marbled" look in a border or perhaps a stone floor or in hair for highlights.

Ridgewood shows off the regular colors as part of a trunk show of this thread.

The Retreat's on Fire!

It's July and you know what that means--plenty of classes and retreats! Shops often have retreats this time of year when the weather's good and folks can get a little time off from work to indulge themselves in a great class or two.  Ruth Schmuff had an embellishment class with ten students working from the stitch guides she devised.
http://www.notyourgrandmothersneedlepoint.com/2015/07/embellishment-by-ruth.html

The Enriched Stitch invited Meredith Willet to come teach.  She's the one who suggested Suzie bring a candle and matches....
http://astheneedleturns.com/burn-baby-burn/

Pocket Full of Stitches had Laura Taylor come teach a Needle Deeva piece to the entire class.  It looks like a good time was had by all!
http://pocketfullofstitches.blogspot.com/2015/07/stitching-retreat-with-laura-taylor.html

You can browse the tab above to see if a class, retreat or exhibit will be held near you. Or click on this link.

Don't forget the matches or the fun!
