Needlepoint Angels Website Now Live!

The Needlepoint Angels website is now live!  What is Needlepoint Angels, you ask?  It's a charity to help needlepointers in need.  You can donate cash or you can donate stash.  All donations are either given to a stitch who has lost their stash in a disaster or sold in the Needlepoint Angels website and the cash used to replace a project that was lost.

Charts for Charity 2025

In December each year, various shops and designers release their fund raising charts for the Charts for Charity program.  I've been collecting as many of these as I could find.   I think all the charts are digital downloads and they support various charities the designers and shops sponsor, so read the fine print before you buy.  And now, in alphabetical order, here are the December 2025 Charts for Charity!

Evergreen Needlepoint

Julie Pischke Designs

KC Needlepoint

Love MBH Studio

Magnolia Needlepoint

Morgan Julia Designs

A Poore Girl Paints

Pop Needle Arts

Saturnalia Stitching

The Wool and the Floss

You can also search Etsy to find more Charts for Charity.

Threads of Blessing Needs Thread Donations

Thanks to Lynn Mason, I learned about Threads of Blessing, a Uganda organization that takes donated threads and distributes them through local churches to nearly a thousand Ugandan women who turn the threads into works of art that they sell.

It looks like you send threads to The Bishop Jones Center in San Antonio, TX and they ship them to Uganda.  Use the Contact Information section to find out more.  Of course if you have no threads to send, you can always buy a completed piece of needlework to support this effort.  They also take commissions.

Goldwork Butterflies for Charity

Alison Cole has a new book out, A Kaledescope of Goldwork Butterflies.   The book can only be ordered directly from Alison herself in Australia as she is dedicating all the profits to research into the extremely rare disease that killed her daughter.

Mary Corbet has done a review on her website.  She points out that shipping costs from Australia are expensive but if you go in with friends and order multiple copies, the shipping costs stay the same (within reason, bet it costs more if you and 100 of your buddies order).

I have not seen this book but all of the Alison Cole books I have seen have been gorgeous and inspirational.  I think this one will be the same.

Breaking News: Fund Raisers for Hurricane Victims

The New Jersey Needle Artists Chapter of ANG has published their October newsletter.  It's full of the usual ANG news, clubs and more, but the most important thing they've done is a roundup of fund raisers for hurricane victims after Helene wrecked their lives.

Give what you can.  Needlepoint.com reports they have raised over $65K, which is amazing.  Thank you.

BREAKING NEWS: A Fund Raiser for Western North Carolina

Needlepoint.com, which was founded in Raleigh, NC (middle of the state), is having a fund raiser for the hurricane damage in the western part of the state near the Tennessee line.

I won't bore you with tales of the destruction which I hear from friends and relatives in the area, but trust me, it's horrible.  No power, Internet, running water, medication, roads--they lost it all.  So go buy something or donate to other charities that are trying to help the mountains recover.

UPDATE:  Needlepoint.com has raised over $65,000.00 to help those whose lives have been upended.  Thank you!

A Remembrance for Carole UPDATED

The late Carole Lake and Gail Ettinger were reworking one of Carole's older charts, "Remembrance Ribbons," just before Carole died unexpectedly.   The design is now available by emailing Gail at gail@stitchestogo.com.  It costs $25 and all the proceeds will be donated to the Texas Performing Arts Youth Program in Carole's memory.

I grabbed the photo from Gail's posting to Needlepoint Nation so those without Facebook accounts could see Carole's work above.

UPDATE:  There are six alternative color ways listed in the chart.  Gail has pulled threads for them all so you can see what they look like.

Shops Raising Funds for Israel

Two shops are raising funds for Israel.  Needlepoint.com is donating fifty percent of the sales of their Kirk and Bradley "Jerusalem" travel round to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Gone Stitching has two fund raisers that contribute to Yashar Lachayal, which is a non-profit that provides soldiers of the Israel Defense Force with toiletries, food and beverages, warm jackets, and other creature comforts.  Light Candles for Israel is a kit with two tea lights, a 13 count canvas, threads, guide and a Planet Earth self-finishing coaster.  This is new and not on their website yet.  Their first fund raiser (three versions of the Israel flag) is on their home page.

K's Creations has a limited edition floor stand with a blue base. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Jewish Richmond Federation Israel Relief Emergency Fund.  Contact Westend Needlepoint in Richmond VA at 804-562-4285 for details and to order.

The Falmouth Road Race Ornament

Osterville Needlepoint has created an ornament for the Flamouth Road Race on Cape Cod.

The proceeds of sales go to the road race.  Here's the direct link to the shop's website.  When I wrote this they were expecting another shipment of road race ornaments.

A Dale Lenci Original at Auction

Now that Dale's retired from his shop owner and DJ Designs needlepoint canvas roles, he's branching out to design and stitch originals.   These will be dreamed up and stitched by Dale , then he'll auction them off once they are complete.  His first project is a designer handbag which you can see here.  But remember, the auction ends on December 16 so if you are interested, you have to move fast.

Ten percent of the auction proceeds will go to a charity that helps support kids emerging from foster care.  Kudos to Dale for being such a good designer--and good guy.

Blue and White Foo Dogs

The Needlepoint Clubhouse in the St. Louis area (actually located in Kirkwood, MO) sells what they call their Guardian Roe canvases as a fund raiser for their local Habitat for Humanity-St. Charles.

The female should be on the left as you face the pair.  You can identify the sex of the foo dog by whether it has a ball (male) under its foot or a puppy (female).

This is the story behind the Guardian Roe foo dogs, which I've copied for those without Instagram accounts below:

"Last week, after a short illness, we lost a woman I was connected to by needlepoint. She was sophisticated and strong, fun and gracious. She was one of my earliest cheerleaders and the first to make me feel I had the skills to teach and advise in this business. Roe Ann had a keen sense of self and style and they were both admirable. One day she picked up this canvas (outlined in blue) and said, “I’m going to do her in pink.” She sent me this progress pic. Immediately I noticed the eye in the wrong spot. Knowing the worldly and smart Roe Ann, I second guessed myself. When she brought it back finished, she had moved the eye—we shared a laugh. In Chinese Buddhism culture, Foo Dogs, aka Guardian Lions, are displayed in pairs. The female is said to protect the people inside the home; the male protects its structure. We will be kitting our second #canvasforacause “Guardian Roe” in honor of our pal. I can’t imagine a better person to watch over any household. Proceeds will be donated to her favorite charity, Habitat for Humanity-St. Charles. 4”x4” on 18 mesh, kitted in silk $75. Please contact us at the shop if you’re interested."

It's a worthy cause, so here is the shop website for those who wish to stitch one.

Hearts for Hospice UPDATED

My Hearts for Hospice Pieces

I've finished my third heart for the Hearts for Hospice program, which is run by the Greater Kansas City chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild.  You can see them above before I wrapped each in tissue paper and put the packets into a sealable plastic bag before putting them in an envelope and taking them to the post office.
https://www.greaterkcneedlepointguild.com/hearts-for-hospice

I'll be mailing them to Sue who collects the hearts and sends them for finishing next week.  I enjoyed doing these and I hope they bring some solace to those with family and friends who are gravely ill.

You can see more about the project here.  It's a great way to share our love of stitching with others and use up that stash we all have.

UPDATE:  The National Academy of Needle Artists (NAN) has added free Hearts for Hospice charts to their website.

Needlepoint.com is also supporting this program through their shops in Charleston and Raleigh.

Queen Mary's Carpet

Queen Mary's carpet has been the subject of discussion on Needlepoint Nation recently, so I did a little searching to find this information about Queen Mary herself and her famous needlepoint rug.  Queen Mary is the grandmother of the current Queen Elizabeth II.  The rug itself was sold to raise money to pay off Britain's national debt after World War II.  It is currently in Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau but I can't find it on their website.  (Thanks for that, Christine!)

Ann Bernard's blog has a great factual article about the rug itself.

This news reel footage shows off the rug nicely.  It took eight years and was started during World War II.

Stitch with JoAnn for Charity

Friends of the late JoAnn are selling her stash for charity, and I know you want to support their efforts to raise money to help the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.
https://www.facebook.com/pg/Stitch-with-JoAnn-502075296931361/posts/?ref=page_internal

JoAnn had an amazing stash, all of which needs good homes.  If you have a Facebook account, head to the above link and start browsing.  This is what the administrators of the FB page and sale have to say:

Welcome to JoAnn's Stash Reload, where you can purchase new (as in never been stitched) hand-painted needlepoint or charted canvas projects. New items will be posted weekly, or whenever the number dips below 12. These items come from a household that once had a smoker and a cat (though they have been aired out). To purchase comment, "Me please," and send your email and zip code via Facebook message. Shipping is included in the listed price. Payments are via PayPal; a PayPal invoice will be sent to the email provided. Shipment on receipt of payment. Check out our story on the About page.

I know the folks who are running this stash sale and it's legit.  They have over $1000 raised already.  So take a look and bring home a bargain.  Also keep an eye on the Facebook page, as new items are posted weekly.  Let's raise money for other breast cancer sufferers and give JoAnn's stash new homes!
