Summary
English: A wire amateur radio antenna suspended above an apartment house in France, in 1912. This type is called an inverted L antenna, and is widely used in the longwave (low frequency) radio band, which was the most widely used band during the wireless telegraphy era at the beginning of the 20th century. It consists of a number of parallel horizontal wires like a clothesline, suspended by insulated supports at each end, with vertical wires connected at one end (right) dropping down to the transmitter. The vertical wires are the radiating element; while the horizontal wires serve as a capacitive top-load, to add capacitance to the antenna, to increase the current in the vertical element, and thus the radiated power. This is a recently colorized version of a historical black and white photo. Since the colors are only a guess by a modern editor at the original colors, this photo should be regarded as WP:ORIGINAL RESEARCH and should not be used in encyclopedia articles. Instead the original black and white version Antenne 160m om original.jpg should be used. |
