Summary

[edit]
Description Diksha (Deeksha) Bhumi or Dhamma Chakra Stupa, near Nagpur in Central India is a holy place where thousands of followers of Buddhism gather annually. Dr. Amedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution of India initiated mass conversion of the downtrodden sections of society (euphemistically called Harijans or more recently Dalits) at this place in 1956. The stupa itself is a spectacular 120 feet high dome made of marble, granite and the pink Dholpur stone. This blue clad image of the Buddha caught my attention during a visit.
