Description
Français : Porte d'entrée orientale du Marais Poitevin, à 60 km de la façade Atlantique (la préfecture des Deux-Sèvres, 59 500 hab., est la plus importante localité de France incluse dans le périmètre d'un PNR), Niort subit de plein fouet les influences océaniques.

L'altitude basse, couplée à l'absence d'obstacles naturels, font que la ville est balayée par des vents parfois violents.

L'apport maritime se traduit aussi par des précipitations abondantes réparties sur l'année, où on ne descend guère sous les 50 mm d'eau mensuels au cours de la période 1980/2010. Ainsi que des températures clémentes, rarement inférieures à 6°C pour les mois les plus froids...
