Everard George van Tindinghorste, Amsterdam; (+) sale, van Amstel, de Winter & Yver, Amsterdam, 26 March 1777, lot 56, as 'Rembrand van Rhyn', on panel, with incorrect measurements, 'Un Homme vénérable assis, tenant des deux mains la garde d'une Epée posée sur son Epaule gauche, il a un Bonnet de Velours sur la tête & une Chaîne d'or autour du Col; le tout fortement peint, d'un grand fini & d'une Couleur clair. Ce chef d'oeuvre est connu par la belle estampe en noir, sous le nom de l'Homme avec l'Epée.'
