Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Greetings A much better place: I have removed the "no source" tag from the above image after working on the template a little. Please wait for a confirmation that a more experienced administrative editor has approved my changes to this one before uploading more patches. The patches certainly are a wonderful addition to the project assuming we can get them correctly licensed. I never knew there was a WWII Canadian military mail unit before!! Great stuff. I will also reply - per your request - via email & also on my talk page. Please feel free to email me or contact me through Commons for additional help on learning how to move around and edit here. It is very confusing at first - I was utterly confused when I started and now look! Hello again, the other editor replied on his talk page, User talk:Jameslwoodward, that there are three copyrights involved on these patches. He wrote: "My reading of it is that there are three copyrights here:

• the photograph -- no problem, our uploader has given a license
• the crest itself as an abstract creation -- no problem, the Crown Copyright has expired
• the manufactured crest

The latter is a problem. Our rule is that individual realizations of Coats of Arms have a copyright. I would suggest that you take this to a DR and see what the community thinks. The "DR" mentioned has a dreadful title, but what it really means is "files for discussion" where the image is presented to the community for discussion to keep or remove it. I have had pictures in DR, one was removed, the others were kept. So do not worry, it is a process with a fearsome name and an even worse notification template (very scary stuff - I wish they would change it to friendlier). I'm not going to do that until you have a chance to find out about the manufacturer of the patch. So I researched the patch company a bit and found that Mr. Gustav Werle sold it in 1967, but that the company failed in the 1980s. The trick now is to find Mr. Werle or his heirs (if possible) otherwise the patch is still copyright until "x" number of years after his death. And if he died in 1967, that won't be for a while yet. It may be possible for the librarians at lhstaff@saskatoonlibrary.ca to provide you more information about the company. Ideally, Mr. Werle sold the entire caboodle to someone who is still alive and/or his heirs are findable and still alive. Either could fill out the wee tiny form at Commons known as an OTRS form and the whole problem resolves. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that when you contact the librarian, they know who to contact about these patches. And I'm not personally filing the DR for at least a week to give you time to research this first, ok?

to see where the "edit" and "history" buttons are located on the screen of any image. "Edit" lets you go back in and change things, and "history" shows who changed what and when. Notice the very top line for a signed-in user with the user name whited-out. That's how to get to your talk page, your preferences, your uploads and so on. Down the left side are all the hotlinks for the project, here it is Commons. This format is universal on the project! So hopefully that is of some small help, and I look forward to seeing more of your images uploaded here at Commons, just not any more patches until the licensing gets sorted out, ok? I'd suggest uploading here instead of the "upload wizard". The long-form old-fashioned way makes a lot more sense and prevents more errors (personal opinion only) than the Wizard. Cheers!!

Fine points of Wikicommons upload template editing

Hiya Wayne: I poked at some of your images, only one is really finished correctly... see images just now for these three

The changes I made to the template were subtle, please open that page as if to edit, cut-copy-paste the entire template into some kind of notepad on your desktop. Then you can see the parts which have changed:

1. Wikilinked the Canadian Air Force (CAF) Like this {{w|Canadian Air Force (1920–24)|Canadian Air Force (CAF)}}
2. Moved collection name to source to make it really clear that his object/your image.
3. Changed format on Author line to make it clear user is same as name (some people don't look).
4. Moved the right way to do the template up to Permission line and added the note of the law you cited inside of <!-- Comment Brackets --> like this.
5. If there are other versions the format is like this [[:File:TheNameGoesHere.jpg]]. The leading colon ":" shows that the file is to be mentioned not shown.
6. License, you had {{self|GFDL|cc-by-3.0|migration=redundant}}, if I could suggest {{self|GFDL|cc-by-3.0}} instead because there's no reason to migrate your license, it's already 3.0

Hi Ellin: Thank you once again for your invaluable help. I'm not even sure if this is the correct way to "talk" to you or if I'm just chatting with myself! It doesn't feel right; I think I should be adding comments on your talk page?? I promise I will go over your template changes and revise the template I have used in the past. I'll try to edit my others accordingly over the next weeks/months. I know enough about HTML editing and characters to realize I basically know nothing and I really don't understand what I am typing other than it seems to "work". Since my wiki changes/additions and limited to about one a year, I've kept with a tried and (somewhat) true method to add images knowing full well there is an easier and more correct method to do this. I forget more than I remember now, sigh.

I should do all of us a favour and try to find an Extension course on Wiki editing in my city.
