Alpha Centauri °•○ Alpha Centauri (α Centauri, α Cen, or Alpha Cen) is a triple star system in the southern constellation of Centaurus. It consists of three stars: Rigil Kentaurus (α Centauri A), Toliman (α Centauri B), and Proxima Centauri (α Centauri C).Proxima Centauri is the closest star to the Sun at 4.2465 light-years (1.3020 pc). α Centauri A and B are Sun-like stars (class G and K, respectively) that together form the binary star system α Centauri AB. To the naked eye, these two…

the three planets are shown in this artist's rendering

Alpha Centauri is a triple star system located roughly 4.3 light-years from Earth. It’s the closest star system to the Sun and consists of three stars – Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B, and Proxima Centauri. Both Alpha Centauri A and B are Sun-like stars (class G and K respectively) while Proxima Centauri is a relatively dim red dwarf star. To the naked eye, these stars appear as one, shining bright in the night sky. Only two exoplanets have been discovered in this enthralling star…

Alpha Centauri, or Rigil Kentaurs, the brightest star in Centaurus and the nearest star system to the Sun. It is a pair of Sun-like stars 4 light years away. This is a superb double star but is not resolved here. The star cluster NGC 5617 appears to the right of Alpha. The area is also rich in dark nebulas. High haze added some natural star glows here — no filter was used. I shot this April 3, 2016 from the Tibuc Cottage, Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia using the 77mm f/4 astrographic…

"This wide-field view of the sky around the bright star Alpha Centauri was created from photographic images forming part of the Digitized Sky Survey 2. The star appears so big just because of the scattering of light by the telescope's optics as well as in the photographic emulsion. Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to the Solar System." A new study focuses on the axial tilt of Earthlike exoplanets in binary or double star systems. It boosts hope for complex life elsewhere ... although not, these astronomers say, within the star system closest to our sun.

Chiron is now in Aries, to stay here until 2027. Every year in March, when we have the Aries season, Chiron gets activated. Between March 25th-March 29th, 2021 we have a triple Sun-Venus-Chiron conjunction. Triple conjunctions are very rare, and a triple conjunction with Chiron is our opportunity to heal old wounds and become whole

the four planets are shown in three different positions, with their names on each side

Could life exist on planets in the star system closest to ours, Alpha Centauri? Dangerous X-ray radiation makes it unlikely for the single exoplanet found so far. But new data suggest better odds for any new planets yet to be discovered.

The closest known planet to Earth outside of the Solar System circles Alpha Centauri B. Although its about the size of Earth, it's closer to the Sun than Mercury, making it uninhabitable.

Milky_Way. Our own Milky Way Galaxy is indeed one of the strangest galaxies in the universe – one of the most impressive too; and that’s not just us feeling proud. Our massive galaxy is home to at least 100 billion planets and up to a trillion stars – some of which are among the oldest in the known universe.
