Backend Engineer

I build backend systems companies run every day.

TypeScript/Node.js and Python engineer behind a 15-state market-intelligence platform tracking 175,000+ products and 13M+ historical price points, plus warehouse software used daily since 2024. I build APIs, data pipelines, queues, and production automation end to end.

Backend work

Competitive Intelligence Platform

production · case study read architecture ↗

The TypeScript data pipeline behind competitive pricing at a multi-state retailer. BullMQ and Redis workers ingest and normalize 175,000+ products and 13M+ historical price points across 1,000+ locations in 15 states into PostgreSQL, with OCR, deduplication, retries, and automated recovery. It replaced roughly two weeks of manual work per cycle with same-day data for the pricing team.

Warehouse Labeling System

Browser-based warehouse software that turns messy CSV and Excel exports into scannable Zebra thermal labels. Operators scan a barcode, resolve the product, assign a batch, and print product, date, allergen, and box data. A three-tier catalog cache keeps it working through network drops, and it prints 1,000+ labels a day at peak with batch runs validated past 400 labels per run. It has run in daily production since December 2024.

Hyperliquid Trading Simulator

A Node.js/TypeScript paper-trading platform on real-time Hyperliquid market streams: one atomic close path, server-only mutation authority, and an 83-assertion database test suite run against real Postgres in CI. Measured on the live deployment: orders execute end-to-end in 571 ms median (874 ms p95) including the full accounting transaction, on a price feed covering 940+ markets. Inspectable code with a live demo.

Production systems are documented as sanitized architecture case studies because their source is private. Start with the Competitive Intelligence Platform, then the Warehouse Labeling System. The Hyperliquid simulator is fully public with a live demo at tradeterm.claygeo.dev. See my full public profile on GitHub.

Client proof

Working with Clayton has been one of the best contracting experiences I've ever had. His engineering was absolutely excellent, but honestly, it's the character alongside it that really stood out. The work he delivered was phenomenal and genuinely turned out better than I had even imagined. His efficiency was unmatched, there was never a single delay in any aspect of the entire project. It is rare to find someone who pairs elite technical skill with such high integrity and professionalism. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
