About Clack.DIGITAL

Stefano playing bass at his work desk

Music tech has become a sad, self-referential, uninspiring world. It is plagued by unfair commercial practices and bombastic, tasteless marketing designed to extract money by exploiting insecurity and FOMO. Now it's drowning in AI slop, too. It has completely lost focus on creativity, beauty, expression, and meaning.

I can't accept that it has to be this way. Music is culture and art. It is an important aspect of everyone's life on this planet. It is therefore too important to be left in the hands of greedy and cynical people. Clack.DIGITAL is my pushback against all that.

I'm Stefano D'Angelo, Ph.D. in music signal processing, and I've spent over a decade helping major brands in this industry get their DSP right, both as a freelancer and through Orastron, the company behind Clack.DIGITAL. Chances are you are already using some of my algorithms. I've also co-authored over 20 scientific publications and play bass whenever I can, though not as much as I'd like.

What I build here is for musicians who want to enjoy creating and exploring, without fitting labels or feeling external pressure. For those who want to decide for themselves like adults, yet experience fun and wonder like children.

My creations range from focused and immediate to deep and exploratory, all grounded in the same principles:

  • Research-grade DSP
  • Human-centered design
  • Nothing between you and your ears

No bloat. No manipulation. No shortcuts.
