a multicolored quilt hanging from the side of a door

One of my goals this year has been to use up some of the 2.5" batik strips I cut last year. In May I completed "Hypnotic", a 72" x 72" beauty (if I do say so myself!) for Stephen and Kailey's wedding. I blogged about it here. Then in November I finished piecing a gorgeous 98" x 98" top (if I do say so again!) for my sister, Debbie. I blogged about Debbie's quilt here. This top is currently with a friend waiting to be quilted so it won't make it off the UFO list this year. As the year is…

an old quilt with many different colors and shapes

Hi, all! It's been a hot minute since I posted about my scrappy endeavors, but since I hadn't had much time to work on anything scrappy, I didn't have anything interest to share. But today I have a flimsy finished!! Here's what it looked like Tuesday night when I shared it with my sewing sisters at church. But it was still a hair small for what we needed. Here's a close-up shot - I took it on an angle and it looks really different here! I found a beautiful green Modernist print by Joel…

a colorful quilt hanging on the wall

Finish #2 for January. I finished the hand stitching last night on the binding of this batik Bento Box quilt. It is 56.5" x 80". There isn't a pattern for this version. I just used measurements that I wanted to make the blocks. Here is a mini tutorial on the way I assembled the blocks. I bought the batik that I used for backing on sale a few years ago. Finish #3 for January. I finished the machine stitched binding on this batik Trip Around the World last night too. It has 120 different…

a quilt made with green, yellow and white squares

Glen and Angela brought this lovely batik star quilt. Glen does the piecing but they work together for design decisions. They chose the "Glamourous" pantograph and I think it adds some nice movement to the top. Using sheets for backing fabric sometimes gets a bad reputation at times. Overall I haven't found them to be a problem if they are washed and pressed and they aren't a super high or super low thread count. This taupe sheet quilted up perfectly on the back.

a table with a sewing machine on top of it and many different colored pieces of fabric

I've made a quilt with this pattern before and it turned out so beautiful that I just had to do it again. The first one was made with the most boring of all the colors in my batik stash.... brown, grey, gold, black, a little dark blue. Not that they were ugly, just not as bright as the others. It's for my son and I didn't want it to look girlie. This time it's bright and cheery colors. Aqua, blue, green, magenta, purple. First thing first..... cut fabric into 2.5 inch strips. Celebrate the…
