Gouache on watercolor paper, approx. 7" x 9" From my archives (meaning, I did this a couple of years ago and forgot I had it). I was at the Sachuest Wildlife Preserve, near Newport RI. I really like gouache because it dries fast and can be worked over immediately, or re-wet and wiped off. When I was an illustrator I did a number of still life paintings at home to improve my skills with the medium and with painting things like flowers. More hollyhocks! I'm realizing more and more how important it is to paint wet into wet to get the look I want. But sometimes you have to walk away for an hour to let the paint get tacky, so you can put paint on top of wet paint without having it lift off. This seems to be most important with with transparent colors like alizarin crimson.

On my way out the door to teach my limited color portrait class. Here's the one I did last night at the Mill Gallery in Pawtucket RI. Tuesday nights from 7-10PM if you want to join us. Alternating nude and clothed models.

Oil on panel, 5" x 7" I have been a member of an artists' co-op for almost 2 years now, located in the town of Warren RI and called "Made in Warren", even though most of the artists don't have studios in Warren. But, we are all residents of nearby towns. This painting is currently part of my display there, framed and ready for hanging. Stop by if you can, there's a lot of really nice work for sale. Oil on canvas, 8" x 6" We went back to the Audubon Reserve in Westport to paint the other morning. Lots of chicory and Queen Anne's lace. Love that blue!
