Sea angels (clade Gymnosomata) are a large group of extremely small, swimming sea slugs, not to be confused with Hydrozoans (Jellies and other similar creatures), classified into six different families. They are pelagic opisthobranchs in the clade Gymnosomata within the larger clade Heterobranchia.

“The SEA ANGEL is aPLANKTONIC PTEROPOD MOLLUSK that lost its shell in the evolution process and became a swimmer,” explains Semenov. “Sea angels feed exclusively on Sea Butterflies (Limacina Helicina), also pteropod mollusks. Angels have six large hook-shaped buccal conuses, hidden inside their head; weapons with which to catch sea butterflies. When a sea angel hunts, its head divides in two parts and the hooks pull out.”

Sea butterflies, also known as pteropods, are related to snails but they use their muscular foot to swim through the ocean rather than creep along the ground.

The pulsing orbs and tentacled balls of flesh live 130ft underwater, encased under the ice sheets of the Russian Arctic, in temperatures only just above freezing.

The sea angel is a tiny species of mollusk found only in Endless Ocean 2. Sea angels can be found in cold waters at both of the polar locations in-game, but only under zoom-mode glows.
