Mixing different stains to remove red tones in 100 year red oak hardwood floor that was in bad shape. Used 1 part Varathane "Aged Wheat" & 4 parts Varathane "Antique White" oil based stains. I wanted a light finish that didn't look pink. The green in the aged wheat, helped cut the red tones to make it look more like white oak.

Couldn't find any good examples of stain colors on red oak so I made them! I am looking for a medium stain with less orange undertones, and have found combinations of stains to be the best bet. Keep in mind the oil based poly will make the stains a bit darker and a bit more honey colored.
