Board of Advisors
The Craft Industry Alliance Board of Advisors works collaboratively with the co-founder and president to steer the organization, including providing input on internal policies, identifying outreach initiatives, and creating long-term plans. Meetings are quarterly (September, December, March, and June) and board members are compensated for their work.
The Board of Advisors is made up of a diverse group of five craft industry professionals who possess exceptional expertise, deep knowledge of the industry, and strong networks to draw upon. Board members serve a one-year term, with the option to stay on for a second year. New board members are welcomed each September.

Ursula Morgan
Ursula Morgan is part of the 2% statistic of women executives who have attracted investment from the Venture Capital establishment. Ursula is a visionary leader with considerable big box and e-commerce experience throughout a range of digital platforms, operations, and technology.
Her superpower is her deep understanding of the sewing and yarn consumer through her experience of leading direct to consumer brands in the home sewing, fashion apparel, quilting, knitting, crotchet, and large craft retail businesses.
Lucy Shen McDermott
Lucy Shen McDermott has been a passionate maker for as long as she can remember, having spent decades developing her skills in knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery and quilting. In 2016, she turned her love of fiber arts into a business by becoming the owner of Stash Charlotte. Before that, she pursued a career in private equity and consulting. Beyond Stash, Lucy has been dedicated to giving back, serving in executive roles on multiple nonprofit boards in her community.
Jon Larson
Jon Larson serves as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Clover Needlecraft Inc., overseeing operations throughout North and South America. With 35 years of experience in the hobby and craft industry, Jon has built strong partnerships with all the major chain store retailers and continues to be a driving force in the industry.
Jon is also deeply committed to supporting the growth and success of independent retailers. He is passionate about education, inspiration, and staying ahead of emerging trends. To stay connected with the industry and its evolving needs, Jon attends more than ten trade and consumer shows annually.
Jon is proud to lead Clover’s global celebration of its 100th anniversary — a milestone that reflects the company’s long-standing dedication to quality and innovation in crafting.
Lyric Kinard
Lyric Kinard is the co-founder of the Global Quilt Connection, an ongoing vital resource for guilds looking for virtual programming and created The Academy for Virtual Teaching where she teaches creative makers of all kinds the tech skills they need to create educational videos.
As a recognition of her teaching skills she was named the International Association of Professional Quilters Teacher of the Year for 2011. She is the author of the book Art + Quilt: Design Principles and Creativity Exercises. She has written extensively for Quilting Arts and several other magazines, and appeared on Quilting Arts TV, and The Quilt Show. You can read more about her at https://lyrickinard.com
Kate Butler
Kate Butler is the former Chief Content Officer for Golden Peak Media. She lead a team of 35+ content producers and designers across platforms, including digital, mobile, social, television and print for 12 award-winning brands. Golden Peak serves four core enthusiast verticals – quilting, sewing, artistry (painting and collecting) and crafts (knitting, crochet, beading and jewelry). She’s also an award-winning news editor and media executive.
