I first met Doug Dabbs in 2011 at Heroes Con. I was heading out from the show and saw his art. If there had been time, I’d have got a sketch on the spot.
I told Doug I would get a piece from him in 2012 and I did. Two in fact. This piece is Doug’s take on Sly as Barney Ross from The Expendables. I love Dabb’s use of white and negative space, plus his figure work is on point.

Jarrod Alberich aka The Yard Sale Artist created the Sly Stallone as Rambo piece for pick-up at HeroesCon. I’ve known Jarrod for years. He’s a fun guy and an easy artist to deal with.
Jarrod calls himself The Yard Sale Artist because he uses materials that he finds at yard sales, thrift stores and so on. When Jarrod comes across books that with torn covers, missing pages, etc., instead of discarding them, he repurposes the pages for art. This drawing came from a Rambo movie adaptation novel.

Now THIS is a Batman that could strike fear into the hearts of evildoers. I’d love to see an entire Batman graphic novel (or any graphic novel) by Gerardo Zaffino.
Otis Frampton did his take on Sly from Paradise Alley way back in 2009 when every Sunday [okay, ALMOST, every Sunday], Otis had a live UStream broadcast that he called the 7×7 Sunday.
Lucky fans could get a head sketch of ANY character drawn live by Otis on a 7X7 inch bristol board for 7 bucks postage paid. It was the best deal going. Watching Otis drawing live and interacting with fans kept me up even if I wasn’t a sketch winner. As you can see above, sometimes I was.

I’ve always liked the way Mike Zeck draws the Hulk. This is one of the first by Zeck, I ever saw. It appeared in TCP Vol. 2 #3 way back in 1976. My buddy, John Beatty introduced me to the world of fanzines and this issue of TCP was one of my favorites.

Going through the Zablo vault I came across this watercolor of Sly Stallone as Cosmo Carboni and Tom Waits as Mumbles from Paradise Alley by Thomas Boatwright. Mumbles was Tom Waits first movie role.

The Punisher by Ito. It’s not a traditional looking Punisher, but I like it. It makes me think, “Man, Ito’s Marv would be terrifying.”
I first met Shane Douberly at a HeroesCon. I’d never seen Shane’s art before but loved his style. So I hit him up for his take on Sly Stallone as Rocky Balboa. Shane came through with a knockout.
