Gamete

A gamete (from Greek: γαμέτης, gamétês "husband", or Greek: γαμέτις, gamétis, "wife"), also called sex cells, is a cell that fuses with another cell during fertilization in organisms reproducing sexually.

Cellular reproduction through meiosis.

A sperm attempts to penetrate the ovum coat to fertilize it.
