John As the years pass, stuff gets complicated. Words fizzle, thoughts jumble. You press on anyway.

Then like a moth to a flame, you see a cool album cover from a band you've never heard of, and take a spin.

Suddenly, you hear it coming.
It DOES get louder.
And you believe it when they say.

I'd like to express my deepest thanks and appreciation to the band for putting forth this remarkable album and restoring joy in this jaded listener.

It's all around, it's everywhere. Favorite track: The Hum.

Ok 02:11
You said you had a dream Where I couldn’t speak On the bed we’d lay You said you heard me say “It will never be ok It will never be ok It will never be ok It will never be ok” (inaudible)

Sell to me A pretty dream Whisper in my ear when I’m asleep Lock me in Forge my trust Don’t forget to charge me when I’m dust It’s all a ruse Held up by cardboard and paper It’s all mass produced But not you and not me Limited edition beings I want for nothing I never have I want for nothing And I never will again It’s all a ruse Held up by cardboard and paper It’s all mass produced But not you and not me It’s all a game I live for your entertainment Put me to shame Block your face to shield you from viewing So you don’t have to see what you’re doing Do you feel better now? Dressed up like an actor, your conscience will factor me out Do you feel better now? Dressed up like an actor, your conscience will factor me out Do you feel better now? Dressed up like an actor, your conscience will factor me out Do you feel better now? Dressed up like an actor, your conscience will factor me out Do you feel better?

Inside Out 02:47
Last night I had a dream I had a seat at the movies Turned away from the screen I have no idea What the movie’s about All the inside jokes turn me inside out I want to take up less of this space take up less take up less (I want to take up) I want to take up less of this space take up less take up less (Less of this room) Just because I thought it (Just because) Just because I thought it (I thought it) Just because I thought it (Does not make it true) Does not make it Does not make it true Last night I had a dream That I had entered a contest Knowing I can’t compete You said: “Please be careful And watch your feet But don’t try too hard Cause I have you beat” I want to take up less of this space take up less take up less (I want to take up) I want to take up less of this space take up less take up less (Less of this room) Just because I thought it (Just because) Just because I thought it (I thought it) Just because I thought it (Does not make it true) Does not make it Does not make it true

When the street is a fragment It will be hard to adjust I’ll have wished I had worked harder To make my transition to dust When the world is a remnant Of a bright human home I’ll be gone and my name will be the one thing I leave set in stone You can do anything you want You can do anything you want But you can’t do it all You can do anything you want You can do anything you want But you can’t do it all You can do anything you want You can do anything you want But you can’t do it all You can do anything you want You can do anything you want But you can’t do it all

Win 02:42
Your mind control Obsessed with bodies I want to hold it in my hand You need to help me understand White truck Raised bed Hideout You’re running to the alley No justice in the valley No hiding from the shadow Could you tell the grass Not to grow? Bet you’d try to burn the soil If warmed you up to know Someone else would go without Could you stop an empty train Hurtling into the station? Bet you’d try to wrack your brain Looking for a way to fill Somebody wins They can’t beat death You’re just like me We all lose in the end Somebody wins They can’t beat death You’re just like me We all lose in the end Somebody wins They can’t beat death You’re just like me We all lose in the end Somebody wins They can’t beat death You’re just like me We all lose in the end

You are helpless Free as a feather You fell from a bird No longer are tethered I had an attachment I hurtled to catch it I opened the door I opted to latch it Your innocence kills me It quickens my breath My breathing is shallow I’m out of my depth You’re running from something You’re running for fun I’ll never forget you Drenched in the sun You were all laughing I stopped and I let you I promised myself I’d never forget you As long as I live I won’t understand It comes around once And never again I forget I can control the way that I see The event Forgive me to forget I recall The way the words would stay in my mouth No chance for a true word To come out I wish I could freeze you Thaw you Steel you from terror Hide you, tell you It’s all a lie I wish I could help you Save you Keep you in sunshine It’s someone’s job But it’s not mine It’s not mine It’s not mine It’s not mine to do It’s not mine It’s not mine It’s not mine to do I know in a decade I won’t have existed You might have a memory But maybe it’s twisted I sat in the front Or was it the back I sang you a song It slipped through the cracks We counted to ten We did it again We counted to ten We did it again And now you are crying Gasping for air Choking on something But nothing is there I had a reaction But I was just scared I thought of your sister With clips in her hair I thought of your parents Looking to me We’re all here to help you We’re all on your team And I forget I can control the way that I see The event Forgive me to forget I recall the way The words would stay in my mouth No chance for a true word To come out I wish I could freeze you Thaw you Steel you from terror Hide you, tell you It’s all a lie I wish I could help you Save you Keep you in sunshine It’s someone’s job But it’s not mine It’s not mine It’s not mine It’s not mine to do It’s not mine It’s not mine It’s not mine to do

I felt it once in a swimming pool When the sun broke the water It was bright in the deafening quiet I was curious I felt it once in the hallway Pressed against the radiator It was warm, I was alive, and I asked myself What does it mean? What does it mean? Is this for real right now? What does it mean? What does it mean? Better to be unseen What does it mean? What does it mean? Is this for real right now? What does it mean? What does it mean? Better to be unseen I felt it once in a pharmacy Standing next to the toothpaste I said, “Jenny, don’t you forget you were here today!” I felt it once as a child Pressed my forehead to the TV I was nothing, now i’m here, and I asked myself What does it mean? What does it mean? Is this for real right now? What does it mean? What does it mean? Better to be unseen What does it mean? What does it mean? Is this for real right now? What does it mean? What does it mean? Better to be unseen I’m still here waiting I’ll wait forever I felt it once Now I’ll feel it never I missed the movie I caught the screening I missed the story But I got the meaning

The Hum 03:33
Goodness Gracious I don't have any patience Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh The valley Is humming I swear I hear it coming Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh I think it’s getting louder They don’t believe me when I say That something terrible is coming That I can’t write off Bullfrogs, blackbirds The house is aging backwards Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Field mice and hornets They’re not my friends they’re not my pets Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ii think it’s getting louder They don’t believe me when I say That something terrible is coming That I can’t write off or write away Sunrise, sunset You haven’t heard it yet It’s all around, it’s everywhere it's everywhere Sunrise, sunset You haven’t heard it yet Sunrise, sunset You haven’t heard it yet Somebody wins It might be you I’ll be your friend Even when you lose Somebody wins It might be you I’ll be your friend Even when you lose

about

Originally from Rochester, New York, Cusp relocated to Chicago in 2022. The change of scenery gave songwriter Jen Bender a bolt of inspiration and half of the album poured out of her in quick succession. After releasing a stray single with Fire Talk Records and the fuzzy and melodic Spill EP that cemented them as a band to watch in New York, Bender found herself imagining a full cohesive record for the first time. You Can Do It All is a culmination of the band’s previous releases, working with engineer Scoops Dardaris (Alex G, Another Michael), Cusp further embraced their grungy, alt-gaze sensibilities and stayed true to the haunting riffs and unsettling chords that make the band’s melodic moments all the more satisfying.

Through ten dynamic tracks and no shortage of fuzz, Cusp fuse heaviness and beauty together seamlessly. Tumbling rock arrangements veer the listener in and out of detailed dream states while lyrically gripping with reality and powerlessness, the freedom to follow your impulses, but knowing your limits, knowing that you can’t do it all.
