American industrialist J. Irwin Miller and his wife Xenia Simons Miller brought Modernism to Indiana with their stunning home the Miller House. After convincing Eliel Saarinen to design a building in Columbus ten years earlier, in the early 1950’s the Miller’s commissioned Eliel’s son Eero to design a home for them in Columbus, Indiana.

The Miller House, is a Mid-Century modern home designed by Eero Saarinen in Columbus, Indiana, USA. Commissioned by architecture patron, industrialist and philanthropist J. Irwin Miller and his wife Xenia Simmons Miller in 1953. It’s now owned by the Indianapolis Museum of Art. The Miller family owned the home until 2008 when Xenia Miller died. Interior design by Alexander Gerard and landscape architect was Dan Kilby.

For decades, Columbus, Ind., has been an architectural mecca, surprising visitors with its collection of buildings by such renowned architects as Eliel Saarinen, Richard Meier, I.M. Pei, and Harry Weese. Conspicuous in its absence was Miller House, the residence commissioned in 1953 by industrialist and philanthropist J. Irwin Miller. The Indianapolis Museum of Art now offer tours of the 54-year-old house.
