Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku' and Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg' Japanese maples have been selectively pruned to become small standard trees. In sun exposed sites Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku' starts to show golden yellow foliage from mid summer and the foliage becomes bright yellow in autumn. During winter the stems become surprisingly red. In general this acer wishes to be fairly upright so we prune most of our Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku' into trees by removing lower lateral branches when the start…

After a hectic 2013, our apologies that we are still catching up both in the garden and with posting more of our late autumn photos. Autumn 2013 colours in the UK Midlands arrived a full two weeks later than normal. Fortunately, despite this late arrival, there were no severe air frosts to damage the foliage.
