This is a sculpture of a discus thrower. I have included this image to show what Hyacinth and Apollo were doing when Hyacinth was killed. A discus usually weighs around 4 pounds, so when thrown through the air, it could definitely cause a lethel injury, especially to the head. Discus was mentioned in the Iliad at the funeral of Patroclus (762 BC), and it became part of the pentathalon in 708 BC. Today, it is an Olympic event in the track and field group.

Croatia’s Sandra Perkovic won the women’s discus throw. Russia’s Darya Pishchalnikova placed in 2nd, and China’s Yanfeng Li placed in 3rd.
