Dan Hillier is a UK based illustrator. I especially love his hybrids of Victorian imagery and animal parts. They are very bleak, dreamlike, and exquisitely done.

I like the large secondary eyes, the cats-eye pupil of the main eye, and the general shape of the eyestalks. I also love the red color for the eyes. This is my favorite beholder I've seen, despite being mostly black & white.

The first in the Eye of the Beholder Painting Series it bears the series name. Representing the seed of enlightened consciousness as it begins to flower. From deep roots the light within us grows into outter forms, like the rose these forms are delicate and yet still bear thorns. Original 11" x 14" in gouache
