Of some 200 covered passages built to afford protection from the elements for Parisian shoppers, only about 20 remain today. Passage Verdeau, with an entrance on rue Faubourg Montmartre in the 9th Arrondissement, connects with Passages Jouffrey and Panoramas. They are airy and charming, filled with odd shops and inviting cafés, with daylight streaming in through the skylights arching overhead and floors of marble or intricately patterned tile.
