During most of the 18th century women wore hanging pockets tied around the waist to carry things they needed throughout the day. They could be reached trough pocket openings in both gown and petticoat. They often were richly decorated and embroidered. They were worn until end of the 1790s, as there were replaced by little handbags known as "Redicules". These hanging pockets are made out of linen fabric.
