about

"Dissolving Castine" is the first album I ever made. It was the early 90’s and I was going to art school in Baltimore, MD at Maryland Institute College of Art. My schedule was very rigorous and to give myself a break from making art I began to play guitar. As to not wake up my roommates I would sneak into the art studios late at night to hone my craft. One fateful night I decided to go into the garbage room at school and despite the scent it had a really nice reverb reflected off the walls. Fellow student William Schaff walked by and asked if he could listen. After that night he and I became fast friends sharing shows together and wandering all over Baltimore. He had recorded a few demos of my songs and urged me to record a full length album at his friend and bandmate Chris Plummer’s studio before I graduate from school. I didn’t even know what it meant to record an album. I am so thankful I did it! The songs I was writing were mostly about family and how I was missing them being so far away from my home in South Berwick, ME… and of course songs of love. So on December 4, 1993 "Dissolving Castine" was recorded.

This album was originally released on “Rockstar Records” (William Schaff’s label) in 1994 and then I put it on my own “Lightning Plug Records” later that same year. At the time I only did a run of tapes and this album has been in the vault ever since. It is finally digitized and now you can hear the young Dan Blakeslee at the birth of his musical career. I can’t thank William and Chris enough for their encouragement. Thank you in advance for listening!

about

Dan Blakeslee Kennebunkport, Maine

With a suitcase of songs, Maine folk troubadour Dan Blakeslee ventured into the subways of Boston in 1995 to practice his craft. His songs of true life adventures combine the essence of early folk music with a dose of country grit. In 2015 his dream of playing Newport Folk Festival became a reality, where Bob Dylan went electric 50 years earlier. His band release "Christmasland Jubilee" on 12.1.20 ... more
