After Upingos is a set of six miniature compositions for solo instrumentalists embedded in a loosely structured free improvisation for three duos and sextet. The flow is: written solo 1/written solo 2/improvised duo x 3; improvised sextet. The compositions were all inspired by the piece *Upingos* for solo oboe by the great Mexican composer Carlos Chavez, with nods to Duke Ellington and Luciano Berio for pepper.
This performance was recorded live by Grant Capes on the second night of Beginning to End Fest, which Grant organized in cooperation with Human Resources Los Angeles.
Included with this download are the scores for each of the solo compositions along with the "road map' for the directed improvisation.
