Bluntness

I've also been told I have little tact, so if this offends you simply ride on.

Anchor This

Yesterday was warm, low 90s (F).  Today's predicted to be warmer, mid 90s (F), with a high expected to be 95 (F).  A reminder:  we are in summer and the season is notoriously known for hot temps.  Of course, I'm in Central PA, not down in Texas, or along the Gulf Coast where the temps will be bordering on Hellish.

Yesterday was also a high Carb day, not that it took me completely by surprise.  I had lunch with my cousin and her husband, a heavy lunch.  For me that's never a good thing because one good thing leads to another, and then to too much and I ended up eating ice cream and a number of little cakey things, like brownies, only made with graham crackers.  Then I turned into a slug for the rest of the night.  I did not step on the scale this morning.

And for those who read my books, I have some bad news... well, not for the readers, but for Bobby Tussel, the ex-Baltimore police officer with a bullet in his brain.  He will be quite disheartened to hear that Anchor beer is going out of business.  How will he get by without any warm Anchor beer?  I understand the brewery and recipes are up for sale.

And can we just talk a bit about the hilarity of the Republican party?  Keep in mind that the GOP is absolutely nothing without a dead horse to kick.  For years it was Hillary.  Just the name Clinton would set them off in a kicking frenzy.  Well, that's changed.  Now they have Hunter Biden.  Oh, and they have his laptop which seems to contain nothing but pictures which have absolutely nothing to do with Burisma.  Besides the laptop, there are purported deals with China, and cocaine use (he's been to rehab).  They have whistleblowers who've been bought, and Gal Luft, a super witness who was going to blow the roof off of the Hunter Biden scandal, until America found out that Luft was indicted last November, and is a Chinese Agent, and...  ?Without a dead horse to kick, the Republican party is nothing, and the few horses they have are rotten to the core.  And it's too late for them to change, which is good for both Democracy and America.

The Pussy Assed Bitch comment

Well, it's Thursday and the temps here in Central PA are predicted to climb up into the low 60s (F).  Yeah, you read that correctly.  Of course, showers are going to be hanging around.  Honestly, I wasn't planning on doing any yardwork anyway.  The forecast is for them to drop back into the mid to upper 40s (F), which is still nice.

I over-carbed it yesterday... again with home made French fries cooked in my deep fryer.  Oh, and I had a balance left on my Dairy Queen gift card which I used on a large Turtle Blizzard.  Yum.  In about an hour, I'm going to step on the scale.  If you live close enough, you'll probably hear me scream.

My first reader has finished going through her copy of The Body Under Ice.  I'll be picking up her copy later this morning.  She has already texted her 'this doesn't make sense' list.  There was nothing on it that was not... terrible.  Not like when she read through The Body in the Tower.  Holy Crap!  Her first comment with that one was "all that bicycle shit in the beginning is boring as hell."  Gladly, she didn't find anything 'boring as hell' in The Body Under Ice.

I've a friend who's going to design school up in New York.  His main focus is sneakers, though occasionally he'll do a handbag.  He and some friends went to the Guggenheim.  He was not impressed.

The miniscule minority of Republicans controlling the House is desperately trying to kick that dead horse known as the Hunter Biden laptop for as much publicity as they can get.  To do this, they went after Twitter yesterday because in their tiny minds, Twitter permitted all types of liberal messaging while censoring conservative comment.  It turns out that both parties requested the removal of content.  The White House, itself, was making frequent requests.  I enjoyed the exchange where the committee learned how Trump had wanted a comment by Chrissy Teagan removed.  He didn't like the fact that she had called him a ''pussy assed bitch," I least I think it was "pussy assed bitch."  This has long been a problem for Republicans, jumping to conclusions that will never be concluded.

Another funny bit was these Twitter execs released the names of the 2 individuals who had requested the most censoring and, as you might expect, they were Republicans.  In case you're interested, they were Elise Stefanik and Kevin McCarthy.  In case you're forgotten, it was Elise who endorsed George Santos.

Washed Out to Sea

I had baked a pecan pie on my birthday.  Since it's recommended I cut back on high carb / high calorie foods and I didn't want to throw it away, I ate it yesterday.  The entire thing.  I mean, I wasn't about to throw it out.  Why would I waste food?

My brother's taking me out for breakfast this morning to celebrate my birthday.  I will probably eat toast, and several other things.

I am going to stop baking bread for a while.  I bake it frequently, and just as frequently, I eat it.  So many carbs.  I am a carboholic.  Always have been.  Candy, too.

Today is also a work day.  I really am tempted to call in and take a personal day.  Probably won't.  Either way I'd get paid 8 hours.

The woman fixing the drywall on the ceiling just realized she had scheduled the repairs over Thanksgiving, a natural mistake since I didn't really know when the holiday was.  She sent me an email asking to start a day earlier.  I just sent her an email asking if she could start after Thanksgiving since the Electrician is scheduled to be here on 11/22.  I'm waiting for a response.

Here's a shot looking out my front door.  Notice the bright golden leaves of my gingko?

And wasn't yesterday fun?  Holy Crap.  Benny Shapiro flipped out on Twitter, blaming the Orange Anus for everything.  The OA, himself, flipped out because it's never his fault.  His entire life has been spent shifting the blame to someone else.  In this case, the blame needs to be spread over the entire Republican hierarchy.  They've been setting themselves up for this ever since they managed to stack the Supreme Court.  Calling your political opponents every name in the book is a fail; the MAGA brain is incapable of understand just how bad the Nazis truly were.  Overturning Roe v Wade hurt the GOP badly.  Their intent to tell women to "shut, we're in charge, and we're going to tell you what you're going to do," simply failed.  America is Centrist, not Conservative, so trying to force Conservative values on the entire country will never work... unless you live in Florida.  Of course, thanks to climate change, Florida will soon be washed out to sea.  Will Republicans learn anything from this?  Probably not, rocks don't think.

The Power of Cake!

Yesterday was some sort of appreciation day at work, one of those things in which cake and donuts are brought in to thank us for working well with the team which does our price increases.  Let me make this perfectly clear, I am a walking carb catastrophe.  When there is a spread of cakes and donuts spread out before me I graze.  Of course, this morning when I stepped onto the scale I saw I had gained half a pound.  Damn those maple glazed donuts!  Not that I'm really worried.  Those pounds will be gone soon enough.
I saw a picture of fat Gaetz from Florida yesterday, smiling from ear to ear, and thought 'this guy's a freaking moron.'  You can tell by his jowls he's taken cake grazing to a whole new level. Then I had to laugh.  He believes himself to be one of the best his party has to offer.  He is so out of touch with the real world.
There was an article in Reuters this morning on how the US continues to fail in what they describe as 'soft power.'  What they're talking about is the scale of respect the rest of the world has for us, and it's sinking fast.  We are no longer seen as a world leader but rather a world greeder (I just made up that word, I know because spell check tells me it doesn't exist).  I guess I should say the world's greediest.  This is all because of the Moral Degenerate in the White House.  Selfishly self-interested, that's what people are beginning to think when the United States comes up in conversation.  Where as before we used to freely offer our cake, now we hoard it, sometimes going so far as to steal it from the mouths of immigrant babes.
And just think, in a little over a year we'll be heading for the polls.  When I told my brother that when the Idiot Jerk loses he will relocate to Moscow.  Of  course my brother made a face.  In his mind, that could never happen.  You see, he likes the cake the Idiot Jerk promises.  He craves that cake, moistly delicious so much so, he overlooks the problems, the lies, and makes excuses.  He can't come to terms with the fact that the Idiot Jerk loves only himself, that he will promise anything to his base in order to be re-elected.  When he loses, they will learn how stale and moldy the cakes he was sell really are... and it will be late, because they've already eaten most of them.

Fast food = phony restaurants

The time was when people who went out to eat could afford to both spend the time and the money.  Why time, because at a good restaurant you might have to wait between 15 and 20 minutes between the ordering and the serving.  This is why appetizers were invented, to help pass the time rather then help you build up an appetite.  Today, most often, the only waiting you do is to be seated.  Today, most Americans frequent a chain restaurant where they are handed a pager which vibrates and flashes to let you know a table is ready.  And, in reality, once you sit down you are served... well, sit down fast food.

That's right, this is fast food

Appetizers are still served, of course, even though the wait time between the ordering and the serving is usually no more then 7 minutes (if you don't order an appetizer); remember, it's get you in and get you out as fast as possible.  They do not like slow eaters or people who enjoy conversation, this costs both the waiter and the establishment money.

And this is fast food

This quick turn around makes it obvious that almost every thing served has been pre-cooked and packaged.  All the cook staff does is put your order on a plate and pop it into a microwave, they don't have time to actually prepare a meal.  While you dinner may taste better then something you might get a  McDonald's or Burger King, the fat content is far worse.  There may be healthy fare on the menu but nobody orders it.  People want to order a dish which has 3 times the carbs you should eat in a day and week and a half worth of fat.  One other thing to note, the portions are not normal, they are oversized.  These establishments want their clientele to return over and over again.  Americans are suckers for a good deal.
