Who is Sirin? And why did I paint her? In Slavic mythology, she’s a half-woman, half-bird figure with a voice so beautiful it could pull people out of reality, make them forget the world and fall into a trance. She was seen as dangerous. Too emotional. Too much. But maybe the real danger is asking women to tone themselves down. To me, Song of Sirin is about that kind of presence - emotional, instinctive, a little bit magical.
