Breakfast is the most important meal in German households. Breakfast starts off with a warm drink such as coffee, tea of hot cocoa and then followed by slices of fresh bread or rolls with different spreads and toppings (butter, marmalade, jams, honey, chocolate spread). Some even like sausage, boiled salami, black forest ham or cheese on their bread or raspberry jam. A glass of juice is common or a boiled, scrambled or fried egg.

German children and young adults like to eat Musli, oat flakes, dried fruits mixed with yogurt or milk as a cereal for breakfast.

Saturday and Sundays most families still enjoy a traditional German breakfast or brunch with family and friends.
Traditional German Breakfast
Bauernbrot (farmers bread), rye bread roll and white bread rolls. Often served with breakfast. With people busy lifestyles some have breakfast on the run and will often stop at a local bakery on a street corner and buy fresh bread and eat on the run. Bread is a staple food eaten with every meal.
Mini German Pancakes
Breakfast- German mini pancakes. Fluffy baked German pancakes can be served with powdered sugar, syrup, melted butter and berries for a delicious breakfast.
In-between meal. Snack! Eating small in-between meals is encouraged to prevent over eating at lunch and dinner. This tradition is called Pausenbrot (recess sandwich). This is meant to help provide energy. Can also be energy bars, fruits, yogurt. Some adults drink a wheat beer and have a sausage before lunch.

Lunch is typically eaten from 12-2pm and is usually served as a warm dish and in the evening most Germans have a light meal. Lunch and dinner can be switched because of daily routines. It's very common to only have one "warm" dish/meal per day.
Authentic German Potato Salad
Potato salad is one of the most famous German dishes. Two most common is with vinegar-oil-vinaigrette and onions or a creamy mayonnaise yogurt-dressing with pickles, onions, eggs and sausage. They can be served warm or cold.
