When using a mirrorless camera there is a simple way to check your exposure and settings before you begin. 

1. Make sure your flash is off, so the camera doesn’t try to simulate the exposure. (Most cameras do this when a flash is attached and turned on)

2. Set your settings that are “must haves”. For dragged light photos you need a slow shutter, around 1/8s. If not shooting dragged light, then 1/100 - 1/200 is great. Next must have is aperture. I like to shoot around f/4-f/5.6 to make sure the subject is sharp. 

3. Now that your shutter speed and aperture are set, take a look at the back of your camera and see what you see.
