Situated on a property that dates back to the days of Pennsylvania's founder William Penn, our farm was given from Penn to colonial Governor John Evans in 1715. At the time, this area was part of Pennsylvania's undeveloped wilderness, which saw the first Europeans settle here less than 5 years before (c. 1710). It's been awhile since we've had a nice photo post. Today reader Frank Trestka shares a set of shots from visits to Holmes County, Ohio. So enjoy some beautiful summer views of one of my favorite Amish communities. These were taken in June. I've added my own comments along with a couple of anecdotes from Frank.

In 2004, two Amish children—siblings, in fact—died while playing. They weren’t doing anything particularly dangerous, just normal recreation, but somehow they both passed away suddenly. But in the intervening 15-odd years, a lot has changed technologically. So when two more siblings died more recently, the Mayo Clinic had better tools at their disposal.
