Anyone out there that was diagnosed with cataracts of PSC

type? Post Subcapsular Cataract?

I was diagnosed early November and lost the ability to drive within a week. Surgery early January. Having some difficulty losing independence (I am 64).

Looking for lessons in this though. And grateful it’s a fixable problem. And I have great health insurance. Not everyone has that.

I guess? Just wanting a bit of a hug. Hahah. Off all social media. But for us? DU can be that. Family has been super supportive.

Feeling whiny. So many many more serious problems out there.

a day, didn't need glasses to read. My cataract was removed early in the a.m., doctor asked what kind of music I liked and a shot of valium before the actual removal. Pleasant experience and you will be so relieved when it's over.

I wish I'd done it years earlier. I had no idea how poor my distance eyesight had gotten. Now I am driving confidently again.

I chose to have my distance sight corrected, so I have to wear reading glasses to see up close, including my computer. This was the right choice for me.

Good luck and I hope your surgery goes well!

They can laser it off, it isn’t as invasive as surgery and while I have not had psc this is my third procedure, each one working great and giving much relief for years

It’s just a miracle what can be fixed now days, you are going to do great!

but it was such a relief having them removed. I was terrified of surgeries on my eyes, and would not do it. My amazing doctor said that’s fine, but you’ll come to me begging.
He was right. Going out at night was torture.
Seeing LEAVES and not just a big grey thing that was probably a tree, I guess?
Glory.

Comes on super fast. Changed my day to
Day life dramatically within a few weeks. No driving. Getting hard to maneuver around my own home. People look like cardboard cutouts in front of windows. Hard to understand what people are saying because I can’t see their faces. Never knew how much I relied on seeing expressions and lips moving to understand what people are saying to me.

Not to say that all cataracts are not awful.

And yes same surgery for all cataracts. Can’t wait! 5 weeks!

Thanks for all your replies. Appreciate it so much.

Nuclear sclerotic cataracts are the usual aging cataracts due to a lifetime of sun exposure. PSC cataracts can occur from corticosteroid use over time. Removing the cataract solves both types. I'm scheduled next week for my left eye. I'll report back.

but I know they're keeping an "eye" on my "eyes" because I have 2 different types. Not enough for surgery right now, tho.. but I can tell my eyesight is not as good as it should be, even wearing my glasses.

Hea, if they give you a valium, kick back and enjoy. Mom had an easy time having hers removed, no problems for her whatsoever. And she loved the valium! (LOL)

Here's a digital hug {{ }} for you... I've been through enough medical with hubby since Thanksgiving, I'm happy to give you hugs and warm thoughts for your best eyesight to come!

I’ve been terrified… the scheduling for my cataract procedure got messed up + I need to reschedule… This thread has been quite comforting… Each day vision becomes a bit more indistinct… so I will make the call…

Appreciate you sharing…

I was scared, too, but it turned out great. Very happy and grateful for the results! Let the anesthesia relax you and it's over before you know it.

button on this tracker device every time ya see a little blip of light around this red square. Then the topic is changed to the early signs of glaucoma. Dr. says either drops every day or laser treatment. So am gonna go for a consolation regarding the glaucoma. I’m 75. And so sorry, this topic isn’t about moi, you’ll do just fine. We’re all here for ya too. Good luck.
