    Desde hace 40 años, la Universidad Autónoma Chapingo, México (la principal universidad agrónomica en Latinoamérica) ha mantenido una sólida tradición de talleres artísticos en teatro, periodismo, cine, literatura, danza folclórica y pintura, entre otros. Estas iniciativas han recibido premios y reconocimientos a nivel nacional e internacional. Sin embargo, en un entorno predominantemente agronómico y tecnológico, el quehacer artístico enfrenta dificultades crecientes para su desarrollo. Esta ponencia analiza la evolución de las actividades artísticas dentro de la universidad y la manera en que su papel formativo y educativo ha sido menospreciado con el tiempo. Hoy en día, muchas instituciones educativas tienden a relegar el arte a un papel secundario o estrictamente comercial, lo que ha sumido a las actividades artísticas en una crisis profunda. La ausencia de las políticas culturales que propicien un desarrollo adecuado de las actividades artísticas en la universidad, han provocado una crisis profunda en el ámbito cultural en la UACh. Como artistas y académicos reiteramos el derecho fundamental a la formación integral y humanística de los estudiantes. En el contexto actual de violencia e indiferencia social, resulta urgente recuperar la educación cultural y artística. Estas ramas de la educación son ejes esenciales para el fortalecimiento del tejido social y el desarrollo de una ciudadanía crítica y humanista.

    For 40 years, the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo, Mexico (the main agricultural university in Latin America) has maintained a solid tradition of artistic workshops in theater, journalism, film, literature, folk dance and painting, among others. These initiatives have received awards and recognition at national and international level. However, in the predominantly agricultural and technological environment of this university, artistic work faces increasing difficulties for its development. This paper analyzes the evolution of artistic activities within the university and the way in which its formative and educational role has been undervalued over time. Today, many educational institutions tend to relegate art to a secondary or strictly commercial role, which has plunged artistic activities into a deep crisis. The absence of cultural policies that promote an adequate development of artistic activities at the university has caused a deep crisis in the cultural field at the UACh. As artists and academics, we reiterate the fundamental right to the comprehensive and humanistic formation of students. In the current context of violence and social indifference, it is urgent to recover cultural and artistic education. These branches of education are essential axes for strengthening the social fabric and developing critical and humanistic citizenship.
