    In 1598, the Italian Bartolome Scarion de Pavia published the book Military doctrine inspired by the stories of wars and battles of the past and in the acts of their generals. The narrative of this work wants to show the lecturers, the rulers and especially the combatants how a battle directed by technique and rationality could be a benefit to promote peace in cities and kingdoms. Without breaking totally with the war ideals of the Classic Antiquity and the Middle Ages, this work further makes possible a lecture on how a war, carried out with passion, discernment, for Christian purposes and God’s will can favor the government of the kings and enlarge their national monarchies as well as dignify the soldiers who fight for their homeland and Christian religion, especially those who live in the Iberian Monarchy reigned by Philip II. of Spain, I. of Portugal (1527-1598). In the work of Bartolome Scarion de Pavia, the military, political e social transformations occurred at the turn from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Times, are reflected in an exemplary way.

    Inspirado nas histórias das guerras e das batalhas do passado, assim como nos grandes feitos dos líderes que delas participaram, o italiano Bartolome Scarion de Pavia publicou, em 1598, o livro Doutrina militar. A narrativa dessa obra tem por objetivo mostrar aos leitores, aos governantes e, principalmente, aos combatentes, como uma batalha regida com técnica e racionalidade pode ser benéfica para promover a paz nas cidades e nos reinos. Sem romper definitivamente com os ideários bélicos da Antiguidade Clássica e da Idade Média, essa obra também possibilita uma leitura sobre como uma guerra, realizada com paixão, discernimento, propósitos cristãos, poderia favorecer a governança dos reis e engrandecer as monarquias nacionais, bem como dignificar os beligerantes que lutam pela pátria e pela religião cristã, especialmente os que vivem sob a Monarquia Ibérica conduzida por Filipe II de Espanha, I de Portugal (1527- 1598). Na obra do Bartolome Scarion de Pavia se refletem, exemplarmente, as transformações militares, políticas e sociais, ocorridas na virada da Idade Média para o Período Moderno.
