The cotton candy terraces of Pamukkale, Turkey
This is such a nice place to take photos early in the morning, and when the hordes of day visitors arrive, it's time to instead soak yourself in the warm water that created this place.

The mountains are nicely rounded by snow and nicely lit by the low winter sun, while the forests and mountain cabins of Gudbrandsdalen stay in the shade.
This is a tough hike in warm weather throughout much of the year, but the perks are worth it. Many times you pass amazing old ruins from back when the Greek ruled this land. This is an amphitheatre in Xanthos, which I had to share with many others, but elsewhere there were more h
I photographed this beach in Turkey as I was hiking the Lycian Way, and while I was tired and sweaty, at least I was not down there. :)
Storelgen in Stor-Elvdal is only beaten in size by a statue in Saskatchewan, Canada, although that one is pretty ugly.
Bring your crampons if you ever hike out of Longyearbyen, Norway.
Pointy houses in Longyearbyen, Norway, all painted in the official palette of the town.
This is one of the two openings of the large hole through the mountain Torghatten. It's a quick hike up from the road just outside Brønnøysund, and as soon as the rocks stop falling down from the top of the cave after spring, it's perfectly safe to walk through it.
Many of the islands may be small, but they're still large enough for an adventure on foot. Here's a scene straight out of a Zelda game, except I took this photo on St Kitts, hiking up to the old fortress on Brimstone Hill. Sweaty, but lovely.
I love photographing the small life. It takes some patience, but on the other hand sometimes all you have to do is look down right where you stand.
This is a random bend of the road in Tydal, an area that gets very few tourists, but looks lovely nevertheless.
This is Romsdalen, where you can see several of Norway's and the world's highest waterfalls just by driving for a few minutes. On the right side here is Vinnufossen, where water drops pretty much straight down a more than 800 meters high mountainside.
This is Lake Vinstre looking beautiful on a summer night, although it owes its size to being part of a hydroelectric power plant reservoir. It's an easy area to hike, as there are plenty of cabins open to hikers in the area. You can actually walk all the way here from the capital
It changes colors in a single bend, just like that. No photoshopping involved, I promise. But taking the photo from the right spot is key. :)
I don't recommend picking up just any creature you may encounter while hiking the wilderness of Western Australia, but some of them are very cute and cuddly. In this part of the country, animals often have never seen a human before, so they may be more curious about you than afra
There's almost no chance you will ever encounter our large wild cats, the lynx. Unless you go to places like Polar Park, an animal park with enclosures large enough that sometimes the animals will be well out of sight, if they decide that's best for them. For example when they ya
Most hikes out of Longyearbyen in northernmost Norway are short, but they are always slightly more risky than elsewhere. One thing is that you need to know how to behave in an extremely cold climate. The other thing is the chance of encountering a polar bear. So, wear good clothe
I like wandering the quiet streets late at night, seeing them like this. And for a daytime excursion, you can head to a spot just outside the city where Slovakia, Austria and Hungary meet. If you are three people you can sit around a table while all being in different countries.
If you feel adventurous, head for Måløy, and then continue on the narrow road Oppedalsvegen to its conclusion. Park your car and walk a few meters, and you will find this natural peculiarity. Best done at sunrise or sunset, but you must be awake and concentrated if you drive here
Flying a drone here is not allowed without a special permit from the nearby airport, but that's okay, since you can also just hike up the steep mountains surrounding the town and get shots like this one. The only drawback is that you also must carry a rifle and be ready to shoot
This is a favorite part of London for me and my camera. It's a most happening place, with lots of peculiar shops and people all over the place.
The English take their LARPing quite seriously. Believe it or not, this photo was not taken in the 1500s, but just last year. :) It's from Arundel Castle, which hosts jousting matches and other medieval mischief often enough.
Lærdalsøyri is a good place to stop for the night on a road trip on Norway's west coast. It's prettiest late in the evening and early in the morning, deep down in a valley where the sun doesn't quite reach at those times.
Many consider the Canary Islands to be a somewhat trashy mass tourism haven, but there's actually a lot of very descent hiking to be done there. Just head away from the beaches and explore the interior of the islands, in particular Gran Canaria (as seen here) and Tenerife.
If you want to buy or even just photograph horses, camels or goats, the market in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan is a great place for it.
This location is not the easiest to get to, but it's spectacular enough to make it worth the effort. Since I took this photo, they built a fence around it, which is probably a good idea, but it sure takes away part of the experience of being at a special place.
The archipelago of Lofoten may be located above the Arctic Circle, but the beaches look good on a nice weather day any time of the year. There's pretty good surfing on the other side of this bay, too.
We do not get much daylight in the winter, but there's just enough of it to get up on a mountain and down again before it gets dark. The mountain in the background is Andalshatten, very hikeable during summer.
The gambling capital for the Chinese is Macau, with significantly larger and crazier casinos than you'll find in Las Vegas. Surrounding them is a normal, functional Chinese city with some heavy Portuguese influence. They mix surprisingly well, at least visually.
