Petrea Vine Sandpaper vine or Petrea flowering plant is native plant to Mexico and America and introduced to Sri Lanka for ornamentation. Leaves of the plant are rough as sandpaper so called sand paper vine and flowers are blue to purple in colors, compound raceme drops to bottom and flowers (sepals) are become various color when it does mature.

The Sandpaper Vine have attractive pale blue to violet, star-shaped flowers which drape down from the woody climber. Although the flowers are short-lived, the secret to its beauty lies in the long lasting petal-like, violet calyces which persist even after the flowers have fallen. The vine’s rough textured leaves resemble sandpaper, giving it the common name Sandpaper Vine.

For a few days now, I've noticed that my Sandpaper Vine (Petrea volubilis) has been flowering more than usual. I've had this vine for five years now and have taken interest especially on the vine's first flowering three years ago. It is only now that neighbors even took notice on the masses of flowers bloomed. Some passersby inquired on how it has flowered this way.
