Today is International Whale Shark Day - a day to celebrate and increase awareness about these amazing sea-dwelling creatures. Whale sharks are endangered and in need of protecting. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, sharks have an important history. They are creator beings, ancestors, totems. Their life cycles reflect the seasons, the landscape and sea Country. They are seen in the movement of the stars.

Many organisations are leading the charge in the banning of the endangered animal-parts trade – we honour and thank them for this.
