I had the strangest experience today. Looked up the definition of “badass” and every dictionary contained just six letters: MTNTMR.

A couple years ago, I flew down to San Jose for Beers in Hell Festival to check out a bunch of young wildings on the rise. One of them was Los Angeles band MOUNTAIN TAMER, who closed out the weekender with a thrilling set that at the time could only be described as Black Sabbath meets Jerry Lee Lewis (less the piano), with just a dab of Jane’s Addiction. I mean, it grooved, baby. These cats could really fly.

Since that fateful encounter, we’ve had the opportunity to soak in MTNTMR’s first album and review their second. Now a third, ‘Psychosis Ritual’ (2020), is on the way and I couldn’t be more excited since auditing the powerful new single, “Warlock.”

Says the band:

“Warlock drops you into combat with a foe who will obscure the truth, break you down, and change the field of battle without a moment’s notice. The inspiration for this antagonist are the imperialist forces that have carved their way through history, changing the narrative of the past and present. The dark current of the Warlock is the world of Psychosis Ritual.”

Excited yet? You will be after pressing play! Look for the Psychosis Ritual to be released via Heavy Psych Sounds on September 25th (pre-order here) .

Give ear…

Some Buzz

Psychosis Ritual is the sum of Mountain Tamer’s first decade of exploration into the psychedelic arts. The album takes the band on a journey through the occult rhythms and tones of worlds forgotten. Each track is a new chapter of Mountain Tamer riffing their way into uncharted territory. For this ritual, you are the sacrifice…

Mountain Tamer is Andru Hall (Guitar/Vocals), Casey Garcia (Drums), and David Teget (Bass). Psychosis Ritual was recorded and mixed by Salem’s Bend guitarist Robert Parker, with mastering by Mike Tarsia at Sigma Sounds Studios. This recording is the most cohesive and lucid experience Mountain Tamer has yet to offer.

The album artwork by photographer Dillon Vaughn and tattoo artist Derek Pratt only adds to the singular vision of Psychosis Ritual by providing beautifully lysergic visuals that are inseparable from the music itself.
