The early line-up for Psycho Las Vegas 2018 has been announced! It includes the likes of High on Fire, Witchcraft, Zakk Sabbath, and Indian (more on this later – for now, remember tix go on sale Friday morning). We thought this an opportune time to let two-time Psycho alum Alyssa Herrman of Foto Phortress share a few of her choice memories from the big meeting in the desert. I think you’ll be impressed not only with the stunning visuals, but the sheer number of bands she was able to snap without succumbing to festival fatigue. Big Psycho Las Vegas news to cap off this story:
Swedish heavy psych legends Witchcraft will be playing their first show in the States since 2009 – one of just two US dates they’ll be performing. Joining them: Italian prog rock gods Goblin (you know them from their scores for Dawn of the Dead and Disturbia, among others), along with horror synth group S U R V I V E and the UK’s DVNE.
You know it was high time to bring the guitar gods back to the forefront of the Hard Rock stage. I’m talking High On Fire and Zakk Sabbath. And, get ready, big news follows: the reunion of Chicago doom terrors INDIAN. Don’t know about you, but I’m feeling the excitement with that announcement.
Tickets on sale this Friday (12/15) at 10 am West Coast time at: www.vivapsycho.com. First 2500 tickets sold will include a entrance to the Psycho pre-fest pool party, which is always huge (past years have included Conan, Goya, Pentagram, and Mudhoney).
Mark your calendars for the big meet-up in the desert on August 17, 18, and 19. With any luck we’ll see you there for a third year!

For the past week, we’ve sorted through memories of Psycho Las Vegas, as captured by the lens of Sally Townsend. In its second year, the ambitious late summer fest brought us an incredible spectrum of bands from the heavy underground. Too many, in fact, for one photographer to capture. That’s why we dispatched Alyssa Herrman and Elizabeth Gore to help out, and we’ll be looking back at Psycho from their unique perspectives before the year is over.
During Day One, Sally snapped Chelsea Wolfe, Conan, Dark Castle, Fister, Goya, the Melvins, Pelican, Royal Thunder, Sleep, Slo Burn, Toke, Usnea, Vhöl, Wolves In The Throne Room, Young And In The Way, and Youngblood Supercult. On Day Two, she captured Ace Frehley, Blood Ceremony, Carcass, Cough, Cult Leader, Diamond Head, Earthless, Hollow Leg, Inter Arma, Myrkur, Neurosis, Summoner, and Weedeater. For her last day in Sin City, Sally Townsend present a spectacular panorama: Abbath, Cirith Ungol, Cloud Catcher, Cult of Luna, Mastodon, Minsk, Murder City Devils, North, Slomatics, Swans, Warning, Windhand, Year of the Cobra, and Zeal And Ardor.
If you were to ask her, I’m sure Sally would tell you her feet have just about returned to normal, but she’s ready to make the trip again! And travel she will – from an ocean away in Melbourne, Australia – for Psycho Las Vegas 2018. We’ll see you there!
