New Music Video by Portland Doomers USNEA
Well, this is quite an honor. Frank Huang of Max Volume Silence Live (the dude who films all those Saint Vitus Bar gigs) included footage I shot of Usnea at Rotture and Star Theater Portland (opening for UFOMAMMUT and Conan, respectively) in this official music video. “Pyrrhic Victory” is from the band’s forthcoming ‘Portals Into Futility’ (2017 - Relapse Records). The video was premiered by our friends at Invisible Oranges.
Unsea has long been one of my “soul food” bands to help me through the long winters when those Oregon clouds roll in. The new record is grim as fuck, but also has a nice balance of tone and color I’m digging. Look for it out September 8th and then the album release party on the 14th at Tonic Lounge (playing with Thrones, Hands of Thieves, and Ninth Moon Black). If you’re lucky enough, you’ll get to see the guys perform at Psycho Las Vegas next week, as well. (Billy)
CHRCH Unveil Trippy New Vid
By Billy Goate
Last year, I had the privilege of meeting the members of CHRCH and to film their set, as they opened up for Usnea and UFOMAMMUT during that feverish North American tour. They struck me as genuine, passionate, and fully committed. Apparently that sold-out-for-metal vibe, with its mix of funeral doom, dreamy psych, and searing drone, has resonated with a lot of others, because CHRCH’s star is rising.
Speaking of which, the latest single from their epic debut Unanswered Hymns got released this week to the audience of Noisey in a music video created by Frank Huang, a stand-up guy you’ve heard me mention many a time from Pit Full of Shit (he’s got a great YouTube channel you should be tuned into).
What’s next for Sacramento’s CHRCH? Well, I’m proud to announce that they have joined the Psycho Las Vegas line-up, which Doomed & Stoned will be heavily involved in this year. What’s more, the five of them will be taking their sound beyond the West Coast to Europe, joined by Behold! The Monolith (dates below), which includes visits to Doom over Leipzig Festival and the prestigious Roadburn Festival. Big congrats to Eva, Matt, Shann, Ben, and Chris on their continued success and I look forward to chatting it up with you in August, if not sooner!

A little something-something for the Weedians in our Doomed & Stoned family. This comes by way of our friend Frank Huang with Pit Full of Shit (excellent YouTube channel, btw), who captured this full set (nearly 2 hours of SLEEEEEP) at this year’s Southwest Terror Fest. Take a big puff and pass it along to your buds.
