DWR Guild Color Challenge

Becki made this version of a Double Wedding Ring quilt inspired by Victoria Findlay Wolfe's book Double Wedding Ring Quilts- Traditions Made Modern. This was for her quilt guild challenge where each participant was to make any type of quilt (within certain size parameters) out of black, white, and one other color determined by choosing a random crayon out of a hat.

She got turquoise.

I used a variegated thread that changed from white to light and then dark turquoise.

I had fun quilting this one with all sorts of random designs; sometimes quilting within the pieced elements, and sometimes not.

I know this was a challenging quilt for Becki to make, as it was for me to quilt it!

But it just turned out so cool!

And guess what?! She won her guild challenge!! And she gave me the special handmade award ribbon to keep. (She also made ALL the award ribbons for the each category at the Show.)

Thanks Mom!!

Lent/Good Friday Quilt

Paula made this gorgeous Lent/Good Friday quilt to be hung in her church last Lent season.

My creative juices were ablaze with my quilting interpretation of Good Friday.

I started with orange thread and quilted feathers radiating out from the cross.

Ruler work for the narrow double lines bursting out from the cross.
I stuck a pin the the center of the center square of the cross and tied a long thread to it. Pulling it taught, I used that thread as a guide for my straight lines to radiate from and as a place to mark my starting point along the edge of the cross.

Love and Light

I used a gold thread in the star blocks.

I wanted the red and the dark areas to represent chaos, uncertainty, negativity, and burdens; so I quilted lots of random and kind of ugly and weird designs.

Stones and earthy designs in the black areas.

A view of the back.

Paula was able to finish up the binding and hung the quilt last Lent season in her church. She said she got lots of great compliments on it. It is such a striking quilt! Thank you Paula for giving me such a special quilt to work on!

Katie made this AMAZING framed 9-patch quilt.

It was huge.

Finger for scale. I have small hands. btw.
Those little squares are 1/2 inch finished.

I love the scrappiness and the arrangement of all these little blocks.

Single yellow Lego block for scale.

Thanks Katie!
