Blog Flashbacks
It's the weekend and it's raining lightly this morning after a week of beautiful hot weather. We've all woken up with runny noses!
To start off the flashbacks today I'm referring you to a post in January 2011 and my talented friend's artwork in accordance with Chinese New Year (CNY):
The Australian Open has now reached the finals and I was so sad to see my mate Roger Federer lose to Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals the other night. So in the second part of our flashbacks, we go back two years to January 2010 where Federer destroyed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals, en route to winning the tournament by beating Andy Murray in the final.

Vistana Hotel - Behind-the-scenes
Today I'm taking you behind-the-scenes at the Vistana Hotel Kuantan.
These are places in a hotel the usual guest never gets to see, but which, accompanied by Hotel Manager Wayne Lee, I had the privilege of exploring.
All of the behind-the-scenes action at Vistana Hotel Kuantan takes place in the basement. Staff offices, canteen, uniform room, laundry room and so on, are all down under the hotel.
Here is the workspace of the Front Office. These people deal with all the email reservations and telephone enquiries
This is the Hotel Manager, Wayne Lee's office. He was kind enough to let Lauren sit in his chair!
Lauren may just be the future Vistana Hotel Manager!
Here is a self-portrait of Nadia Bertrand. She has hung on the walls of Vistana Hotel, numerous paintings she worked on here for 5 months earlier this year. Bedsheets fall down into the laundry room from the chute
The laundry room was the most interesting place behind-the-scenes for me. The piles of laundry, the night shift workers, the huge washing machines and steam dryer, the professionalism required to work in the laundry room.
Here is the laundry room at 10pm, just as the night shift begins:

Wayne explained everything to me. This washing machine comes at a price of RM200,000 and has a life of 15 years. It is capable of washing a load of 60kg! Wow! And I thought we sometimes had big laundry jobs!
Here's a look at the chemicals which are fed into the washing machines, different ones for different types of washes. It was all quite amazing to me. The laundry workers really know what they are doing and are prepared for any accident that may occur with these chemicals. Engineers are often in the laundry room to check the chemicals and the washing machines
And here is the steam dryer. Bedsheets are fed into this machine and come out the other side hot and crease-free!
Amy is the good member of staff who escorted us down to the laundry room at 10pm and took this picture of us. It was really warm and gripping down here and after 10 minutes Lauren was already too hot!

Zenith Hotel and SAS International Convention Centre
It's been a while since I blogged about the famous Zenith Hotel where I was privileged to be
- and later where we attended the New Years Eve buffet and official opening
- enjoyed a wholesome food sampling session
- and finally were treated to a free one night stay by the General Manager
- February was the last time I took you into the SAS International Convention Centre (SASICC) which is attached to the Zenith Hotel
I must admit that those were good times indeed as I discovered that being a blogger can bring rich rewards!
Last weekend there was a "perfectlivin" exhibition at the convention centre which I attended, if only to do some window shopping and snap a few pictures. I'm pleased to announce that the Zenith Hotel is almost completely finished with work going on on the 23rd and final floor. Here's how it looks:

I was attracted to this piece of Islamic art which portrays the 99 names of Allah (God), as found in the Holy Qur'an

Kuantan Old Town
One sunny afternoon I took my Panasonic Lumix DMC-F2 and spent a couple of hours walking around Kuantan Old Town. This is a very old area of Kuantan, with aged buildings and a few pearls amongst the lines of shops covering the roads. I hope you enjoy this photographic tour of the old Kuantan, which I'm glad is still standing today, providing reminders of the past.

While Kuantan develops and grows with new structures like the Zenith Hotel and East Coast Mall, it is a tasty contrast to still have the old buildings which shaped Kuantan's image.
