Founded in August 2020 by Harish Uthayakumar and Shreyans Sancheti, BlueLearn started as a community on Telegram where students shared doubts with experts. That's now expanded to 42,000 members from 14 countries—including the US, the UK, Singapore and others. The company provides a one-stop platform for students to learn new skills, network with peers, and apply for internships, according to its website. The Bengaluru-based firm has 13 employees, at present.
“We started building the BlueLearn community in August 2020. In our conversations with them, we realised there was a huge gap in industry exposure and opportunities students in Tier II-III colleges received,” Uthayakumar said. “Through BlueLearn, we want to democratise access to knowledge and bring back the ‘human’ element in the age of virtual learning.”
According to Vaibhav Agrawal, partner at Lightspeed India Partners, while the world has moved on to social communities, byte-sized content, and hyper-specific skills, India’s education system is still stuck in a classroom, with static curriculum and rote learning.
“Lightspeed is excited to work with the imaginative, creative founding team of BlueLearn that sees this gap clearly and wants to create a big dent in this space," he said.
