Shamelessly stolen from a Facebook friend. Because any day's a good day for Françoise Hardy.

Pope vs. Frog

Ratzinger comdemned this sculpture, because - hey - that's what Popes do ! Well, that and advising third world Catholics not to wear rubbers despite rampant AIDS. He's obviously never lived in a wealthy white sururban community with Goth Teens and graveyards!

I gotta say, compared to Piss Christ and Manure Mary this is kinda lightweight, more like something and old lady would put in her garden so the froggies could pray.....

NYT has the tale of the toad headed for hell here.

Kippenberger's work, which I quite enjoy, (sort of a Yokoo/Warhol influenced pop based exploitation of reproduction methods, amongst other things...) can be found here at SFMOMA (quite tiny images, but hey, they kick photographers out now, so the usual care to display properly may have just gone by the wayside.)

Lastly three things:

1. Yeah I know it happened while back but nobody talked about it except the press and

2 & 3. Here's two frog songs!

Really this second one's about Frenchmen (Hey Phantom - everybody secretly wants to be French!)

Jerry Williams - Just A Little Bit of You

The old swedish lady says: "You look like you have to pee. I can take you if you want?"
The younger swedish lady says: "You look like you have to pee. ... Come."

This track was taken from Jerry's 1968 record 'Power of Soul' .

Swedes, ... you know!

Brazil Pop Bonanza

As an aficionado of the offbeat and obscure, it makes my heart sing when I discover a blog chock full of interesting looking pop music that I've never heard of. "Dang Dang" by the Clevers? "Hully Gully do Guarda" by Cleide Alves? "My Mummy Put Sugar on Me" by Os Incriveis? "Adolescent Enomorato" by the Snakes? Heeeeeeeeee-llllllll YES I say, and it's all for the taking at sodajovemguarda, which is as good a name for a blog as any.

Beatniks and Hipsters '71

Chris at Ultra Swank has another one his nicely packaged high quality compilations up. This time he's been sniffing some oriental incenses ...
" ... As the title suggests we are moving away from lush cocktail parties, stewardesses and martinis for a while to go down one flight of stairs into the world of swingers, beatniks, hipsters and cool cats. Welcome to the Electric Psychedelic Swingers Pussycat Club downtown London, were we play psychedelic rock and pop from the late '60s and early '70s until the break of dawn. ..."

My old buddy, Måns (aka Twin Piloda), has a new video out. I didn't know that.
Have a look.
He's a talented man.
The video was shot and created by conjunction images.

The Something Special

"The Something Special is a Psychedelic Neo-folk/Dream Pop group. Not only do they bring exciting new sounds to they stage, they also bring an entire audio-visual experience. Some of the elements involved include, but are not limited to: Slide shows, balloons, bubbles, guitars, tambourines, theremins and the most powerful, blinding light you've ever seen! " (Quoted from their MySpace)
This is the band's songwriter Tony Vosik's own recordings between 2002 and 2007. Before there was a band. He plays it all. Good music!

Dara Puspita

"Dara Puspita (Flower Girls) was Indonesia’s most successful girl band of the 1960s. While there were many popular female vocalists in Indonesia at that time, they nearly all relied on the services of a backing band. Dara Puspita was one of the few girl groups who actually played all their own music as well. ..."
