kinetic wall

A system of mechanical arms is organized as a facade that is responsive to the spatial needs of the building. The arms are able to create different formations: shading systems, rooms, walls, stairs. This is a study of what the array of a simple, backhoe-inspired element is capable of. The element itself is a hydraulic arm, which in the study and representation project became a pneumatic arm with sets of syringes acting as actuators. Animation was used as a form-finding technique that can also prove the multitude of programatic solutions that such a system can provide.
