From the name Cyril +‎ -ic, from Medieval Latin Cȳrillus, from Ancient Greek Κῡ́ρῐλλος (Kū́rillos), denoting Saint Cyril who devised a predecessor to Cyrillic script, the Glagolitic alphabet.
