Etymology

From gōd ‘good’ + spel ‘news’, translating Template:etyl:Ecclesiastical Latin bona annuntiatio, itself a calque of Template:etyl:Ecclesiastical Latin evangelium, (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek(deprecated template usage) εὐαγγέλιον (euangélion) ‘good news’. The first element, gōd, is not related to god ‘God’.
