Kaza

Etymology

Apparently a Template:borrowing: note that the words for “male goat” and “female goat” in (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latvian are non-cognate ((deprecated template usage) āzis and (deprecated template usage) kaza), unlike other Baltic languages ((deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lithuanian (deprecated template usage) ožỹs, (deprecated template usage) ožkà; (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Prussian (deprecated template usage) wosux ([vōzuks]), (deprecated template usage) wosee ([vōzē])), which suggests that an earlier (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latvian term, perhaps *āze (apparently present in place names like (deprecated template usage) Āzes), was replaced by the borrowed (deprecated template usage) kaza.[1]

Pronunciation
