Newark
Appearance
English
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably from Old English nīewe (“new”) + weorc (“work”). In this case, a perhaps more accurate sense of "work" would be that of a building, as an example of a work of labor. It appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Newerche.
